The King & Global Interfaith

The Saudi government has announced earlier that a three-day interfaith conference will be held later this month, specifically on July 16 in Madrid, Spain.

This remarkable, useful initiative (which was first brought to light by King Abdullah after his meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican last November) mainly aims at bringing Christians, Jews and Muslims together of all various religious sects. The conference agenda also includes, according to ArabNews, discussing highly-critical contemporary issues such as "human rights and peaceful coexistence".

I believe if the conference turns out to be a success, several benefits can be earned:
1. Clearing out misconceptions usually associated with Islam.
2. Presenting a better image of the true peaceful Islamic teachings.
3. Establishing bridges of communication and understanding that work mutually among the followers of these monotheistic religions, and accordingly fight evils such as war and terrorism.
4. Reinforcing the value and importance of faith in common people's lives and emphasizing on its role in confronting challenges that face mankind at large such as corruption and crimes.
